In the coming months, I hope to see a spirited contest between all the candidates in the Senate race, not just a handing-off of the senatorial washroom keys and a change of the signage in Washington.

With all the attention Richard Blumenthal has been getting in his new position as Christopher Dodd's heir-apparent, might I suggest that Connecticut voters look beyond this past week's events and take a look at Merrick Alpert?

Unlike Dodd or his dauphin, Alpert has real-world experience, from serving our country in Bosnia (earning the Joint Service Commendation Medal) to starting and running small businesses.

With the many security threats our country faces, and the economic crisis our current senator was involved in creating, I want Connecticut's next senator to be fresh, from outside the broken system and to have the kind of knowledge and experience that Alpert brings to the table.

I want to thank everyone who has been a part of this campaign over the past year: our family, friends, staff, interns, contributors, delegates and supporters. It has been an amazing journey. I look forward to seeing all of you as I continue to push for private sector job creation, clean government and removing U.S. forces from Afghanistan. I am very grateful for your friendship and support. Please join me as I campaign for my fellow Democrat Richard Blumenthal so that we can keep the Senate seat Democratic and keep Linda McMahon where she belongs - in the drug infested, three-ring circus known as World Wrestling. Good luck and God bless on your journey.
